THE AWARD

This award honours an individual or group that has made a significant contribution in creating or presenting programs that introduce youth to the importance of conservation, habitat and wildlife. Twelve years ago, Nutrien Ltd., a fertilizer company, launched Caring for Our Watersheds, a program to educate, inspire and equip teens to become key stewards of water, a precious resource. Through an essay-writing contest that dovetails with and supports school curricula, offering useful education resources, high school students in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario are introduced to the complex and important issues surrounding water use and conservation. The program has reached 25,000 students to date.
