Pictures Perfect

- Rick J. Bates CEO, Canadian Wildlife Federation

We embark on this new year — CWF’S 60th — celebrating our history, looking forward to the future and sharing the moment with a special edition of Canadian Wildlife magazine devoted to brilliant wildlife photos from people across the country.

What better place could there be to present the stunning images captured by readers like you and hundreds of other outdoor photographers across the country submitted to the Canadian Wildlife Federation’s annual photo contest. Since our first annual photo contest in 2007, the quality of images submitted has grown. Equally, as more and more people across Canada embrace the many benefits of time outdoors, the quantity of images has grown too. This year we hit record numbers of submissions in every category!

Fittingly, after a year like no other, the magazine is taking a different approach to displaying the best images submitted to our annual photo contest. The editorial team was so impressed with the range and calibre of images, they chose to dedicate the entire issue to them. The result is a visual feast of more than 40 pages filled with a whole country’s worth of wildlife. It is a celebration not only of the photographic talents of hundreds of people from coast to coast to coast but also of the stunning beauty of nature that surrounds us here in Canada.

Speaking of celebrating, as I mentioned above, CWF is marking our 60th year in 2022. Throughout the spring, we will be saluting the vision of those who created this organization way back in 1962 and our proud history of hard work since in advancing the cause of conservation in our country. At the same time, we will be looking forward, building on existing programs and developing new ones to meet Canada’s conservation goals through direct delivery, education, research and advocacy.

All of us at CWF are so very proud of the organization, its past, its people and its future. We are proud too of the extraordinary support and participation we receive from people across Canada. And we are so very proud to be able to present to you an entire issue of our magazine dedicated to the evocative and inspiring photography of our readers, committed supporters of nature and the cause of conservation of Canada’s wildlife and wild spaces.

Here’s to a happy and healthy 2022!
