It is with deep sadness that we, her family, announce the passing of Mary Eileen MacPherson, 94, of Glace Bay, on Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at Glace Bay Hospital.

Eileen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmothe­r, great-grandmothe­r, sister, aunt and friend. She was a very kind, loving and patient person.

Eileen was born in Donkin and as a young girl moved to Glace Bay. She was the daughter of the late William and Gertrude (Hart) Oldford.

Eileen was a secretary for S. Carroll Heating for several years.

She enjoyed many hobbies like cards, Scrabble, bowling and handcrafts such as knitting and crochet. Eileen loved baking and cooking and her ‘ grandma’s biscuits’ were well known. Eileen loved to travel to Halifax, Ontario and out West to visit her children and grandchild­ren, with whom she shared many good times.

Eileen is survived by her children, Margaret (Orville) Faltenhine, Halifax, Bill (Shirley) MacPherson, Olds, Alta., Cameron (Alma) MacPherson, Port Elgin, Ont., Elizabeth (Don) Von Sprecken, Fillmore, Sask.; 13 grandchild­ren and 21 great-grandchild­ren. She is also survived by sisters, Edna MacPherson, Etta (Annie) Matheson, Glace Bay, Muriel Duffett, Ont., Ada Fudge, N.B.; and many nieces and nephews.

Eileen was predecease­d by her husband of 53 years, Neil, daughter, Sandra (Alvin) Faltenhine, brothers, Les, Joe, Burt, Norman Oldford, sisters, Beulah Cavers and Claudia Almond.

Many thanks to Dr. Ley and all the staff of 3 South at the Glace Bay Hospital, who were so good to Eileen during her long hospital stay. Additional­ly, Eileen was blessed to have wonderful in-home caregivers, who allowed her to remain in her home as long as possible.

Visitation for Eileen will take place Friday, Sept. 7 from 7-9 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay.

Memorial service will be held in Knox United Church at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, with Rev. John Finlayson officiatin­g. Burial to follow in St. Lukes Cemetery, Donkin.

Donations in Eileen’s memory can be made to charity of one’s choice.
