Thomas William ‘Bill’ Plumridge

Dad passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, in the An Cala unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. He spent his last days surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Charles Edward and Susan (Boutilier) Plumridge.

A veteran of the Second World War, dad served as a paratroope­r assigned to the 1st British Airborne Division. After 35 years of service, he retired from CNR.

Dad enjoyed spending time in his workshop refinishin­g antique furniture, salmon fishing and was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan.

Dad was a devoted husband, father and grandfathe­r, who had a wonderful sense of humour, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, Vida (Lake); daughter, Judy (Brian) Mercer, Coxheath; son, Tom (Florence Currie), Sydney River; daughter, Debbie (Kevin) MacNeil, Howie Centre; sister, Elizabeth (Phil) Tait, Winnipeg; sister-in-law, Dorothy Johnston, Sydney; grandchild­ren, Andrew & Bryna Mercer, Jeffrey & Jason Plumridge, Matthew, David and Peter MacNeil; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, dad was predecease­d by his sisters, Alice, Marguerite and Emily, brother, Robert and granddaugh­ter, Jessica Anne.

Many thanks are extended to dad’s caregivers who allowed us the privilege of keeping him in his own home.

Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Church of Christ the King on Saturday, 2 p.m. with Rev. Karen Quirk officiatin­g. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.

Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to the An Cala unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
