Riverview, Glace Bay to meet in girls rugby final
SYDNEY — The Riverview Rugrats and Glace Bay Panthers girls will lock horns for the Cape Breton High School Rugby League championship after posting semifinal victories on Tuesday at Membertou Athletic Field.
The Rugrats scored a 29-10 victory over the Breton Education Centre Bears, and used a balanced offence in the victory.
Justine Meekers, Elise Marsman, Kassia Orychock, Jill Cashin and Jessica MacDonald all picked up a try each for Riverview.
Jocelyn Manley also made good on two conversions.
Sam Shoupe supplied all the offence for the Bears, scoring two tries.
In the second semifinal, the Panthers got past the Sydney Academy Wildcats by a 27-10 final.
Rhiannon Summerall led the way for Glace Bay with two tries and a conversion. Gracie MacNeil, Madison Nolen and Sandra Madore each had a try apiece.
Sydney Academy replied with a try each by Dana Saeed and Benedicte Canivez.
The boys semifinals will be played today at Membertou. Riverview challenges BEC at 4:30 p.m., followed by Sydney Academy versus Glace Bay at 5:30 p.m.
The Rugrats and Panthers will play in the girls Highland Region final on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Membertou. That will be followed by the boys championship game at 5:30 p.m.
