Alexander ‘Alex-hector’ Mcneil

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Alexander (Alex) McNeil, announce his peaceful passing at the New Waterford Consolidat­ed Hospital on Sunday, May 19, 2013.

Alex lived most of his life in Bridgeport. He was the son of the late Hector and Catherine (Cameron) McNeil.

Alex was a miner for 45 years, working in 1B, 26 and Phalen mines.

He was a parishione­r of Immaculate Conception parish, Bridgeport.

He was a devote family man. Alex, his wife Loretta and their children spent their summers at Georges River, enjoying the company of their many extended family members. “The River” was Alex’s little piece of paradise.

Alex was predecease­d by his wife, Loretta (Almon); left to mourn are his children, Gary, Vancouver, Ian (Sally) Glace Bay, Joseph (Kim), Regina, Mary ( Jeff ) Tasseron, Ottawa, and Nancy (Steve) MacDougall, Bedford, N.S.; also mourning the loss of papa Alex are his grandchild­ren, Cameron, Catherine, Adam, Josh, Sarah, Alexander, Eryn and Scottie; his faithful canine companion, Abbie; sister, Jessie May (Ross) Matheson and brother, Eddie (OMI).

Alex was also predecease­d by sisters, Sadie and Annie Theresa MacDougall, brothers, Johnnie, Angus, Cameron, Malcolm, Pius and Harvey.

The family are grateful for the care and compassion shown to Alex by the second floor staff of New Waterford Consolidat­ed Hospital as well as Dr. Sheira Haq and the palliative care society.

There will be no visitation by Alex’s request. A funeral mass celebratin­g his life will be held on Friday, May 24, at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church. The Rev. Daniel Boudreau will be officiatin­g. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery.
