Euphemia ‘Phemie’ Cassie Maclean

Euphemia ‘Phemie’ Cassie MacLean passed away on May 18, 2013, surrounded lovingly by family, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late RH and Maryena (MacNeil) MacLean.

Phemie was educated at Mount Carmel School in New Waterford and received her secretaria­l training at Empire College in Sydney.

She worked at the old New Waterford Hospital, the steel plant, the New Waterford town hall and the Lahey Clinic, Boston, Mass.

Phemie was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend and she valued family dearly. She returned from Boston to New Waterford and lovingly cared for her ill mother and upon her death, continued to devote herself to caring for her father.

She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Dumont, Florida/Sydney; as well as many nieces and nephews, and cousins. She was predecease­d by sisters, Christina ‘ Tena’ MacQuarrie, Catherine ‘Snookie’ Currie, brothers, Frank and Angus MacLean, brother-in-law, Ambrose Currie, sisters-in-law, Jessie (Kavanaugh) MacLean and Ruby (Ross) MacLean.

There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 23 at St. Joseph’s Church, Sydney, Rev. Conrad Edwards officiatin­g. Reception following. Interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery, New Waterford.
