Valda Maxwell, age 74, of Reservoir Avenue, Glace Bay, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in North Sydney, Valda was the daughter of the late Tom and Frances (Hillier) Myalls.

Valda was a former member of The Presbyteri­an Church.

The love of her life was her family and she was totally devoted to them. Valda was an avid baker and great cook.

She is survived by two daughters, Marlene (Murdock) MacKenzie, Darlene (D.A.) Maxwell MacDonald, two sons, Lawson (Mary Leigh), Leonard (Marion), all in Glace Bay; one brother, Wallace (Donna), Kentville; one sister, Joyce Moffatt, North Sydney; six grandchild­ren, Cori Leigh ( John) MacKenzie Currie, Erica (Kenzie) Royal, Allison (Andrew) Girouard, Michael, Andree, Liam and three great-grandchild­ren, Hally, Ellen and Jamey.

Valda was predecease­d by her loving husband, Lawson Maxwell, one brother, Ronald and one grandson, Anthony.

Cremation has taken place. A private burial will be held at a later date in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay, with Rev. John Hannem officiatin­g.

As an expression of sympathy for Valda, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Alzheimer’s Associatio­n.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the direction of the V.J. McGillivra­y Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay.
