After nine premieres across the globe, ‘Catching Fire’ cast tries to catch their breath

Cast on whirlwind of promotion for sequel

NEW YORK — Nine — that’s how many red carpets the stars of “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” have walked at premieres around the globe to promote it.

Not that they’re complaining about going to cities like Rome, London, Paris and Madrid. Still, the film’s stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth, admitted it was a bit of a whirlwind travelling for the second film in the “Hunger Games” series.

“You look at the schedule and you’re like, ‘Oh man, that’s grueling,’ and then you’re living it and you’re like,’ I can’t possibly ... uh, I can’t do this,”‘ she said, laughing on the red carpet at the film’s final premiere in New York City on Wednesday night.

“It’s crazy to wake up in a different city every day but I think turning up and seeing how excited people are for this film, it gives you energy,” Hemsworth said.

From all that travelling, Lawrence said, she had no idea what was going on in the world, particularly with current events.

“It’s impossible,” she said. “People were like, ‘oh’ and talking about things that had happened during the week. I’m like, ‘I wasn’t on the planet.’ Like, I don’t know what happened. I didn’t know the mayor (of Toronto) was smokin’ crack,” she said, referencing the scandal involving that city’s mayor, Rob Ford.

The 23-year-old Oscar winner was jovial at the event, which also drew cast members like Philip Seymour Hoffman and Elizabeth Banks, and other stars like the designer Valentino and Brooke Shields. Lawrence cracked jokes with reporters and talked to all the press — a change from the Los Angeles premiere earlier in the week where she was too sick to do many interviews.

“Catching Fire” will be released in theatres today.
