Ocean Waves Quilt Guild meets today

-

GLACE BAY — Speakers at a function in the community today will most likely have the members in stitches.

The Quarry Point Quilt Guild is hosting the meeting of the regional group — the Ocean Waves Quilt Guild — at the Glace Bay fire hall from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

“Ocean Waves is kind of like a support group for the smaller guilds,” said Blanche Payne, vicepresident of the Quarry Point Guild.

“They have members from all over the island, they only meet four times a year.

The Ocean Waves guild held its annual meeting at Cape Breton University in April, the July meeting in Mira and the September meeting in Port Hawkesbury.

“They move around to different venues. When they do meet one of the small quilt guilds on the island looks after their meeting. Our quilt guild — the Quarry Point guild — was asked to look after the Christmas meeting.”

Payne is also a member of the Ocean Waves guild as are numerous other members of the Quarry Point guild.

“Members are from all over, Port Hawkesbury, Inverness, Cheticamp. Baddeck, Louisbourg, Mira and Belle Cote.

Payne said the Ocean Waves will be holding a general business meeting today and there will also be a ‘show and tell.’

“We will all be sharing different things we are doing with a Christmas theme.”

A member of the Glace Bay fire department will be on hand to speak about safety during the Christmas holidays.

Payne said at past Christmas meetings everyone brought a gift for a swap. However this year those attending are asked to bring something for the Glace Bay Food Bank.

“So hopefully we will get a nice little donation for the food bank.”

The Quarry Point guild will hold its Christmas meeting at St. Mary’s hall Dec. 4 at 6 p.m.
