Capers suffer consecutiv­e losses to Saint Mary’s

HALIFAX — Cape Breton University’s basketball teams suffered straight losses to the Saint Mary’s Huskies during Atlantic University Sport action in Halifax on Saturday.

In the men’s game, the Capers were defeated 92-74 by the Huskies.

Cedric Kasongo led the Capers with 14 points, while Arild Geugjes netted 11 points.

For the Huskies, Marquis Clayton netted a game-high 23 points, while Brian Rouse and Boyd Vasell chipped in with 16 points apiece.

Also scoring in the double digits were Theon Reefer and Riley Halpin who each added 10 points to the Huskies’ tally.

On Friday, the Capers men’s team was defeated 90-82 by Saint Mary’s.

It was a losing weekend also for the Capers women’s basketball team, which recorded a 8759 loss to Saint Mary’s on Satur- day. On Friday, the Capers fell 77-53 loss by the Huskies.

Capers rookie Alison Keough led the with 19 points and nine rebounds on Saturday, while Colleen Keane netted 17 points.

For the Huskies, Justine Colley netted a game-high 24 points, while Laura Langille added 18 points and Rachelle Coward chipped in with 10 points.

The Capers will return home for AUS action on Friday in games played against the University of Prince Edward Island.

The women’s game begins at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m.

Both games will be played at Sullivan Fieldhouse.
