It is with great sorrow that we, the families, announce the sudden passing of our loving husband, devoted father, adoring grandfathe­r and caring brother, Daniel Angus Currie, 87, a resident of Leitches Creek, on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.

Dan Angus was born at MacAdam’s Lake, on May 30, 1926. He was a son of the late Dougal and Effie Belle (Harrietha) Currie.

He was a hard worker, who spent many years working at the open hearth at the Sydney Steel Plant as well as delivering mail for Canada Post to the surroundin­g communitie­s.

He married the love of his life, Margaret ‘ Peggy’ MacLean on Aug. 26, 1958. Together, they had five wonderful children, Theresa (Steve), Ann (PJ), Frances (Daniel), Daniel (Monica) and Bernadette (Adrian) and are now surrounded by 11 grandchild­ren and one great-grandchild. He was a true storytelle­r and entertaine­r. He was always quick with a joke or a story and seemed to have one for any and every occasion.

In addition to his children and grandchild­ren, Dan Angus is also survived by his loving siblings, Mary Pickup, Angus Joe (Theresa) Currie, Theresa MacLean, Michael (Rhodena) Currie, Jim (Shirley) Currie, John L. (Lizzie) Currie, Cecilia (Ray) Gosbee and Caddie (Archie) Fraser.

Besides his loving parents, Dan was predecease­d by his brother, Francis ‘ Buddy’ Currie, his three sisters, Katie Mae Currie, Flora Jane (Claude) MacMullin and Tennie (Michael) MacInnis, his four brothers-in-law, Fosh Pickup, Tom MacLean, John W. and Sandy MacLean, and his two sisters-inlaw, Sally Currie and Yvonne MacLean.

Visitation for Dan Angus Currie will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A funeral mass will be celebrated 1 p.m., Wednesday at St. Barra Church, Christmas Island, with Rev. Bernie MacDonald officiatin­g. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery.
