Make tracks to the Bayplex — your heart will thank you

-

To the editor, Many of us are ready to “throw in the towel” over the dreadful winter weather that shows no sign of relenting any time soon. Snow and rain followed by flash-freezing makes sidewalks dangerous for walking, especially for the seniors in our communities.

Walking has many health benefits. Putting one foot in front of the other is a natural exerciser. It is a gentle, low impact form of exercise that is easy, free and suitable for people of all ages.

Many of our community members are striving to be more physically active.

With this in mind, the East Cape Breton County Community Health Board is sponsoring free walking sessions at the Bayplex in Glace Bay during the month of March.

We are inviting residents to put one foot in front of the other to make tracks to the Bayplex facility. The walking track will be free from 1-3 p.m. each day during March.

There is an elevator available for residents who find stairs difficult to manage. Washrooms are available and there is plenty of parking.

Walk for a few minutes or longer, bring a friend or two for social interaction and get out of the house.

Spread the word — put it on facebook, tell your friends — get everyone out walking in a safe, friendly environment.

Make March the beginning of your fitness plan. Your heart will thank you.
