Riverview makes provincial final

Glace Bay also in medal hunt

The Riverview Reds girl’s soccer team is one win away from the provincial high school championsh­ip.

Becca LeBlanc scored both goals for the host Riverview side as the Reds overcame a tough C. P. Allen Cheetahs team from Bedford. Haley Birrell scored the lone goal for the visitors.

Riverview will face Halifax West in the title game that will kick off at 12 noon on Saturday on the CBU turf. And, should the Reds be victorious they will win the Nova Scotia Schools Athletic Federation (NSSAF) Division 1 Soccer Championsh­ip with an unbeaten season.

Halifax West earned its place in the final match with a 2-1 win of its own over Upper Tantallon’s Sir John A. Mcdonald Flames. The two semifinal losers meet in the bronze medal game that will start at 10 a.m. at the CBU pitch.

In Girls Division 2 action, the host Glace Bay Panthers dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Millwood in the semifinal. The Panthers will play Hants East on Saturday at 10 a.m, while Millwood plays Horton for the gold medal at noon.

In Girls Division 3 play in Halifax, the Breton Education Centre (BEC) lost 2-1 to New Germany. BEC will face Halifax Grammar in the bronze medal match, while New Germany takes on King’s-Edgehill for the gold.

In Girls Division 4 in Yarmouth, the Cape Breton Highlands Academy defeated Drumlin Heights 7-0 to advance to Saturday’s championsh­ip match against Pictou.

In Boy’s play, Halifax West will play Park View for the Division 1 title, while the second tier championsh­ip will see-Yarmouth take on Northerthu­m-berland Regional.

In Division 3, Digby will face New Germany for gold, while in Division 4 the title match will feature Pugwash, which defeated CBHA 2-0, and Ecole NDA.
