Caring Canadian Award:

• Was established by former Governor General Roméo LeBlanc to recognize individuals who volunteer their time to help others and to build a smart and caring nation.

• It is not a national honour but it is one of many governor general’s awards which includes the Governor General’s Academic Medal and the Governor General’s Literary Awards.

• It is the only award for volunteerism given by the governor general.

• It was established in 1995.
