TSX closes higher af­ter Euro­pean gains

TORONTO - The Toronto stock mar­ket closed mod­estly higher with the met­als and min­ing sec­tor lead­ing the way even as an early rally in cop­per prices faded. The S&P/TSX com­pos­ite in­dex ended the day up 21.77 points at 13,425.19. U.S. mar­kets were closed for that coun­try's Thanks­giv­ing hol­i­day and will re­open for an ab­bre­vi­ated ses­sion on Fri­day. In com­mod­ity mar­kets, the Jan­uary con­tract for bench­mark U.S. crude rose 17 cents to set­tle at US$43.04 a bar­rel in elec­tronic trad­ing and De­cem­ber gold fell $3.80 to US$1,070 an ounce. The Cana­dian dol­lar rose 0.01 of a U.S. cent to end the day at 75.22 cents U.S.
