Military exercises in Marion Bridge
SYDNEY — Canadian Armed Forces members will conduct a training exercise at Blue Mountain in the Marion Bridge area this weekend. Exercises began Friday and will continue until Sunday. Residents may see military vehicles transporting personnel and equipment. Weapons and blank ammunition will be used. Although most activities associated with the exercise will take place away from public view, residents in the area should use caution, particularly when approaching military vehicles. During the exercise, Canadian Armed Forces members from the Cape Breton Highlanders, Nova Scotia Highlanders and 36 Combat Engineer Regiment will practice combat manoeuvres. Training scenarios will involve troop movement, navigation, patrols and simulated combat. The Canadian Armed Forces indicated that this type of realistic exercise is necessary to prepare members to be combat-ready in order to fulfil the forces’ mandate of protecting Canada and its interests at home and abroad.
