Whatever Happened to .....
CBU Alumnus: Jared Tomie Job Title: Project manager
Employer: ACAP (Atlantic Coastal Action Program) CBU Education: BSc 2008 Current Location: Sydney, N.S. Hometown: Howie Centre, N.S.
The fact that Cape Breton University had the program he was looking for, as well as the affordability that living at home offered, made it an easy choice for Jared Tomie.
Now working at ACAP Cape Breton as a project manager, Tomie. says that CBU helped him with the skill set needed for his position.
“Studying at CBU gave me a great foundation in biology and encouraged me to continue my education at the graduate level. These combined experiences have given me skills I use every day at my job.”
Tomie also said that having the opportunity to conduct research in his undergraduate degree is something that is extremely beneficial for students.
“My best experience at CBU was working with Dr. Katherine Jones as a research assistant and honours student. It was a great opportunity that gave me hands on experience with field and lab work, and allowed me to get experience conducting research projects.”
Tomie said he is always encouraging potential students to attend CBU and adds that it’s rare in the university sector to find an institution that has such supportive instructors and professors who were willing to go above and beyond for their students.
