CARMICHAEL, Bernard ‘Hoagie’ Norman, CD

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Bernard Norman Carmichael on Nov. 26, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Eskasoni, he was the son of the late Archibald and Margaret (McPhee) Carmichael. Hoagie was well decorated while serving his country with the Canadian Army. During his 25 year career he served overseas In Korea, Cypress and two tours in Germany with the Royal Canadian Dragoons (RCD’s) and the Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers (RCEME) eventually returning home to Cape Breton.

He is survived by his sons, Norman (Laura Lee), Halifax, and Kenneth (Maryann), Halifax; sisters, Rhodena Johnson (Donald), Sydney, Carol MacLellan (Danny), East Bay, Phillis Youden (Ron), Sydney; brothers, Roderick, Florida, Jack (Margaret), Whitney Pier, Archie, Sydney; grandchild­ren, Stacy (Ryan), Sydney, Annette, Beaver Bank, Jacquelyn, New Waterford as well as great-grandchild­ren, Duncan, Hazel, Winston and Joel. He was also survived by his special friends, dogs, Duchess and Fancy.

Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by his loving wife, Eunice; sisters, Marie and Florence; brother, Elmer; grandson, John Norman and a daughter in infancy.

Cremation has taken place. A chapel service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2015 in the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. with Rev. Duncan Roach officiatin­g. A luncheon will be held at K.O.C Hall, Plummer Ave., All are welcome.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford.
