10 a.m., New Year's dance tickets on sale, Steelworke­rs and Sydney Pensioners Club, 30 Inglis St., Sydney. Music by Everett and Reggie. Lunch served. Members only.

December 4

11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Christmas tea and sale, hosted by St. Mary's Senior Guild, St. Mary's Hall, 8 Marconi St., Glace Bay. Special dessert. Eatin or takeout. 6:30 p.m., Steelworke­rs and Sydney Pensioners Christmas supper and dance, 30 Inglis St., Sydney. Reservatio­ns only.

December 5

10 a.m.-2 p.m., Bake sale, Mayflower Mall, sponsored by St. Marguerite Bourgeoys parish CWL. Pies, fruit cakes, shortbread­s, muffins, tea biscuits, loaves and more. 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Indoor yard sale, Florence fire hall. Table rentals available, Steve, 902-736-8772. 1-3 p.m., Christmas tea and sale, Westmount United Church, Westmount Road. Sandwiches and sweets served. 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Christmas luncheon and sale with chicken and meat pies, Knox United Church, Glace Bay. Sponsored by the UCW. Bake table, books, jewlery and more items on sale. 6-8 p.m., Santa's village, Southend Community Centre, Sydney, with Mrs. Claus' kitchen, elf workshop, Santa's castle and more. Tickets at the centre, Island Martial Arts, Glace Bay, Needs Convenienc­e or at the door. 6:30 p.m., Christmas night parade as part of Christmas in the Village, Whycocomag­h. The parade starts at WEC and travels to St. Andrew's Presbyteri­an Church. Immediatel­y following the parade will be the community Christmas tree light up, church parking lot. Food items will be picked up along the parade route for local needy families.
