Dominion and area residents will find old favourities have returned to the annual Seaside Daze summer festival.

Laurissa Peori, who is an activity co-ordinator along with Bobbi MacCormack, said people will discover some of the popular events from past years have been revived.

“We tried to switch it up a bit this year and add a lot more for all age groups as well.”

Seaside Daze kicked off Friday with the annual parade and events will continue until Sunday, July 31 when the festival ends with fireworks.

“The fireworks is a big highlight, one of the best of all the festivals.”

Peori said one of the events revived this year is the Amazing Race.

“It used to be really popular but we stopped doing it a few years ago.”

The Amazing Race will take place Monday at McDonald Elementary School grounds beginning at 6 p.m.

Anyone wishing to sign up for the race can telephone 902-5746087 or 902-322-5055.

As well Peori said the antique car show has been brought back and will be held at St. Eugene’s parking lot, across from the fire hall on Tuesday starting at 6 p.m.

The children’s dance is also making a comeback and take place Thursday at the Dominion Community Arena from 6-9 p.m., organized by the Dominion

& Area Recreation Society.

Peori said the dance is focused on family and friends.

“It was a really popular event at one time and it’s an opportunity for a lot of different age groups to participate in something.”

In the meantime all the favourite Seaside Daze events remain as part of the festivities, including one of the most popular — a seniors strawberry festival at the Dominion fire hall on Monday from 1-3 p.m.

“That’s a really big highlight in our festival,” Peori said. “It gives seniors an event specifically for them. A lot of people come to see people they don’t get to see all the time. It’s a really nice gettogether, we always have a lot of interest.”

Peori said the last day of the festival will be a big day with lots going on at the Hawks Field from 1-4 p.m., leading up to the fireworks in the evening.

“It’s a huge day of fun, events for all ages, a really good day to end our festival. We are adding a lot of newer games to our Kiddies Day.”

Seaside Daze brochures were mailed to all residents of Dominion, however brochures are also available at local businesses.
