SOONERS, MINERS WIN ATLANTICS

The Sydney Sooners claimed the Atlantic Major Little League title with a two-game sweep of Lancaster, N.B. Sydney clinched with a 5-3 win on Saturday. Cole Stevens struck out 14 batters. Hayden MacLean hit a homer and two singles, Jake MacMullin swatted a double and Anthony Lecky and Archer Balcom added hits. They’ll compete at nationals in Vancouver, Aug. 4-13. The Glace Bay Logistec Miners won their series in three games against Lancaster, N.B., to win the Atlantic junior crown. Glace Bay posted a 9-8 win on Sunday to advance to nationals in Lethbridge, Alta., Aug. 3-11. Breton Sibley and Chris Stanley pitched in the win. Sibley hit a double, two singles and had four RBI. Stanley, Alec Campbell and Brayden Boutilier had two singles.
