A wide range of events will be part of the Sydney Waterfront Street Festival on Aug. 6.

Hosted by the Sydney Waterfront District, in collaboration with Cape Breton Regional Municipality’s recreation department and Pride Cape Breton, the street festival will include the community’s annual Pride Parade, a rainbow market, sidewalk sale, and the second annual food truck round up.

“We are thrilled to partner with CBRM recreation and Pride Cape Breton. We hope this collaboration will bring an incredible experience to visitors and residents of all ages in our district,” Janelle Osborne, president of the Sydney Waterfront District, said in a release. “The district merchants have gathered lots of products for the sidewalk sale. At the round up, we will have live music by Robbie Simms and Mark Boutilier and face painting, sidewalk chalk, and games in a children’s area.”

The street festival will begin at 9 a.m. with the sidewalk sale and rainbow market in Wentworth Park through to Charlotte Street and surrounding area. The pride parade will travel from Crescent Street, along the Esplanade to Charlotte Street at noon, and the food truck roundup will be set up at the corner of Pitt Street and George Street, with a few vendors in Wentworth Park, from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.

“The success we saw in the 2015 pilot food truck round up project went beyond our expectations, serving nearly 2,000 hungry customers,” noted Elizabeth Arsenault, of CBRM recreation. “With a growing food truck industry in Cape Breton, this year’s event has attracted even more vendors, highlighting the variety of food trucks our municipality has to offer.”

Janet Langille of Pride Cape Breton said they are inviting businesses and organizations to participate in the pride parade, and vendors to be part of the rainbow market. To register for either event send an email to sddastudent@gmail.com.
