There seems to be a lot being done for Munro Park in North Sydney these days but what about Indian Beach where a lot of people go six days week to listen to music, or just to pass the time?

I hear a lot of people say that Indian Beach did not get a promised upgrade after the sale of the wharf in North Sydney. Where did that money fro, that sale go? I hope our MLA, MP and councilors share some of that money for Indian Beach.

On July 1, after it rained, I drove to the beach and the parking lot was filled with potholes, which were filled with water. In fact, the entire surface needs to be graveled.

The place also needs paint, more clean toilets, siding on the canteen building and the sign, “Ocean View,” needs to be painted as well.

Fixing Indian Beach would be good news for the whole community.

We want no more false promises as we get enough of those during elections and we’re tired of hearing it. the Strait Area transit service is going to be drastically reduced in Richmond County due to a lack of interest, and funds, from our municipality. This news hit me very hard.

It is disheartening when I see specialists who tell me to increase my physiotherapy appointments in Port Hawkesbury and realize that I may not be able to do that because I have no way to get there without the transit.

Medically I am unable to drive so I already rely on the goodwill of friends to drive me to my appointments in Sydney, Antigonish and Halifax. I cannot impose more on them to take me to physio, too. I am on a disability pension so I do not have a great deal of money to even think about travelling by taxi.

I am certain that I am not the only person in this situation of not having available transportation. That’s why having council support the Strait Area transit service is so important. I know of people who use the transit often to travel for dialysis, physio or to visit their loved ones at the nursing homes. People use the transit to travel to work, do errands and for some, just to socialize. This will also affect Nova Scotia Community College students, and ROC Society clients, not living on Isle Madame. What will these people do if the county does not continue to support the transit service?

I, as well as many other people, will absolutely lose independence without transit. We who travel on it regularly support the Strait Area Transit as much as we can.
