Dobson Days sets sail tonight

- BY CAPE BRETON POST STAFF

If you see lights bobbing and floating in Sydney harbour tonight, don’t be alarmed.

The flotilla of lights signifies the official opening of Dobson Days hosted by the Dobson Yacht Club in Westmount.

The boat light-up parade will begin at dusk and all participants are encouraged to shed a little light onto their crafts before sailing from the club over to the Sydney waterfront.

On Saturday, free boat rides will be offered from the Westmount club beginning at noon.

A slow poker run (speed is not an important factor in this event) from Dobson to the Northern Yacht Club in North Sydney will begin at 3 p.m.

The best poker hand, collected at each of four designated stops around the harbour, will determine the winner. Poker hands are $10 each.

On site throughout the day will be face painting along with a food service provided by Marty’s Food Truck.

Also on site will be members of the 2016 Cape Breton Bikefest motorcycle group and there will be a dragon boat demonstration by members of the Cape Breastoners.

Just before the sun goes down, the club will host a dance, beginning at 9 p.m., featuring the sounds of Herman Wadden and Gone Country.

Participants then move from the water to the golf course on Sunday for the R.B. MacNeil Memorial Golf Tournament at Alderdale Greens on Rudderham Road.

Tee-off begins at 11 a.m. and continues every 10 minutes.

Cost per four-person team is $160 and proceeds go to Northside General Hospital cancer care unit.

It’s then back to the water for the closing event, a boat sail-past beginning at 6 p.m.
