TATLOCK, Ret’d Captain John “Bull”

We, the family, are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfathe­r and brother, John ‘Bull’ Tatlock on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in New Waterford July 24, 1935, he was a son of the late Jonathan and Gertrude Adelaide (Dawes) Tatlock.

For most of his life, John volunteere­d, starting as a school traffic officer while at Central School in New Waterford, REACT Emergency on channel 9 and Search and Rescue. He was a 4H leader and very active in the South Bar Volunteer Fire Department, at one time serving as president of the Cape Breton Fraternal Fire Fighters. He enjoyed swimming, skating, dancing and meeting new people through the fire department and camping. John spent part of the last 55 summers camping at Broad Cove Campground in Ingonish. He and Gwen camped across Canada and Alaska, having tea and toast from coast to coast.

John is survived by his wife, Gwen (MacLeod); sons, John “Skip” (Linda), Cape Breton and Paul (Fernanda), PEI; grandchild­ren, Mallory, Kelsey, Hillary, Nicolas, Victoria and Isabella; sister, Joy Kanne; brother-in-law, Alan (Barb), Ont.; sister-in-law, Betty Tatlock; many nieces and nephews.

He was predecease­d by four brothers, Stanley, Donald, Derrick “Tat” and Norman; three sisters, Dorothy, Betty and Brenda.

Thank you to the nurses on 4B at the CBRH for the wonderful care they provided John.

Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, August 26 from 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at South Bar Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday 11 a.m., with Rev. Rosemary Godin officiatin­g. Interment at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Horizon Achievemen­t Centre or to a charity of your choice.
