Owner of vandalized ball field wants those responsible held accountable.

The owner of a ballfield that was vandalized last Thursday by a man and woman out joyriding wants action.

“I have heard from the police and I will be meeting with them sometime this week,” said Trevor Tracey, owner of TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists on Reserve Street, Glace Bay.

“I don’t know how we’re going to handle it but definitely something is going to be done. I don’t know how it will be resolved, I just want them to know that you don’t do that.”

Tracey believes those responsible need to be held accountable for what they’ve done.

A neighbour noticed a car was spinning around in the ballfield and when the vehicle got stuck they witnessed a man, woman and young child getting out of it. The car was locked up and left in the ballfield.

Tracey purchased the former Holy Family Church which is now a funeral home. The ballfield was part of the property purchased and since it is important to the community he has allowed residents to utilize it while the Cape Breton Regional Municipality maintains it.

The ballfield is used by the Glace Bay Women’s Softball League as well as other members of the community.

“When I come home I see people walking their dog or someone throwing a ball to a kid. One day there were people down there flying kites.”

He said it’s an area of his property he treasures himself.

“I go down there a lot to walk, it’s so peaceful I love the place,” he said.

Tracey said police have told him they know who is responsible for the vandalism. Earlier Cape Breton Regional Police confirmed they are investigating the incident.
