It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the passing of Daniel Joseph Gouthro, age 85, beloved husband, father, grandfathe­r, brother and uncle, on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the Northside Community Guest Home in North Sydney.

Born in North Sydney on August 26, 1931 he was the son of the late Daniel and Mary Anne (Currie) Gouthro. Dad was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Parish in Frenchvale. He was a heavy equipment operator for many years and worked for various constructi­on companies.

He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed life. He was a great storytelle­r, enjoyed his grandchild­ren, his fiddle tunes and in his younger years prompted many square sets.

Dad is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Ann (MacDougall) Gouthro; his children, George, David, James, Louise (Kevin) MacPhail, all of Frenchvale, Karen Gouthro, Sydney River, Marie Gouthro (Wayne Costello), Point Edward, Diane MacDougall, Calgary and special daughter, Cindy Boutilier, Sydney; his grandchild­ren, Geoffrey (Mendy), Steven, Blaise, Kenny, Tommy, Justin, Jaime Lee and great-grandson, Geoffrey. He is also survived by his siblings, Jenny (Billy) MacPhee, Gertrude Gouthro, Frankie (Lauchie) MacInnis, Kay Gouthro, Annie (Jimmy) MacNeil, Hilda (Frank) Devereaux, Monica MacNeil, May Gouthro and Anne Marie MacNeil, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by brothers, Greg, John, Tom, Peter (infancy) and sisters, Patsy Gouthro and Sarah MacLean.

Visitation for Daniel will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at St. Mary’s Church with Rev. Paul Abbass officiatin­g. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
