It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmothe­r and greatgrand­mother, Rose Marcella LeBlanc, age 85, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney on Thursday, April 6, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

Rose was born in New Waterford on August 10, 1931 and was the daughter of the late John A. and Mary Kate (MacFarlane) Gillis.

Rose was a member of Holy Redeemer parish, Whitney Pier.

Rose worked with her belated husband, Lollie at LeBlanc’s Printing, Whitney Pier, and later worked in retail for Sears then Woolco until her retirement. She was also Lollie’s main caregiver for many years during his illness. Rose was a loving and devoted mother and loved spending her summers at the family cottage in Northside East Bay and was a woman of strong faith.

Rose is survived by her five children, Marion (Seldon) MacKenzie, New Glasgow, Ruth (Dennis) Shea, Sydney, Paul (Brenda), North Sydney, Glenda (Raymond) Martin, Sydney, and Lydia (Brian) Fraser, Sydney; 13 grandchild­ren, Melissa, Christophe­r, Jason, Patrick, Erin, Maureen, Meaghan, Katie, Emily, Justin, Rachael, Matthew, David and three great-grandchild­ren, Oliver, Felicity and Emma Rose. She is also survived by sisterin-law, Martha Gillis; brothersin-law, John (Frances) LeBlanc, Urban LeBlanc and Charles Barrington; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Rose was predecease­d by her husband, Florian ‘Lollie’ on December 22, 2012 after 59 years of marriage. She was also predecease­d by sisters, Tena Campbell, Rita Heffernan, Sister Grace Virginia Gillis, Sister Lydia Gillis and Margaret ‘Peggy’ Howell and brothers, Alex, Myles, Joseph, John and Hugh.

Visitation for the late Rose Marcella LeBlanc will be held on Sunday, Apr. 9, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street).

Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Apr. 10, 2017 at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Paul Murphy officiatin­g. Following the mass, light refreshmen­ts will be held in the funeral home reception area. Interment will take place in Resurrecti­on Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Donations in memory of Rose may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund or charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home, Joseph Hall, and the staff of the Northside General Hospital, 5th floor and 4th floor west, for their kind and compassion­ate care given to Rose during her time of need.
