MACDONALD, Joseph Francis

It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Joseph Francis MacDonald, 65, of New Waterford on April 9, 2017 at the QE2 Health Science Centre, Halifax, N.S.

Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Hugh and Agnes (MacDougall) MacDonald.

Joe was a man of strong faith and a member of the Parish Church of St. Leonard in New Waterford. He was active in bringing communion to the sick and elderly in the community. Joe enjoyed playing darts and socializin­g. He was also passionate about cooking. He worked in the food industry for several years, the last being Jasper’s Family Restaurant, where he was employed as a cook and eventually became manager of that branch. Joe will be missed by all.

Surviving are his brothers, Vincent ‘Topper’ (Ronelda) MacDonald, Dartmouth, Aubrey MacDonald (Frances Burns), New Waterford; sisters, Marlene (Albert) MacDonald, Adeline MacDonald, both of New Waterford, Glenda (Gerald-Deceased) MacCormack, Albert Bridge, Joan MacDonald, Annie Mae (Paul) Burrows, both of Halifax; two sisters-inlaw, Maureen (Mullins) and Donna (Woods); several nieces, nephews, grandniece­s and grandnephe­ws.

Besides his parents, Joe was predecease­d by brothers, Sherwood and Kenny MacDonald.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held today (Tuesday, April 11, 2017) from 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivra­y Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.

A Funeral Mass of celebratio­n will take place Wednesday, April 12, at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiatin­g.

Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford.
