MCDONALD, Gerald ‘Gerry’

-

Glace Bay

It is with deep sadness that we are announcing the sudden passing of our loving husband, dad, poppie, brother, uncle and friend. Gerry, age 66, passed away at home on Sunday, April 30, 2017 of a broken heart.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Charles and Emerita (Bates) McDonald.

Gerry worked for more than 25 years as a coal miner with Devco; he was also a very experienced handyman, always there to help family and friends with their projects and repairs or whatever else was needed from him. He enjoyed doing many things, but what he truly loved the most, was spending time with his beautiful wife, Barbara; as people know they were inseparable and will continue to be, as their hearts have and will forever remain joined.

Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Barbara (nee Porter); daughter, Lynette (Adrian) MacLean; sons, Leslie (Tracy) and Thomas (Amanda); his three loving grandchildren, Kailey MacLean, Madden McDonald and Kai McDonald; sisters, Sharalyn (Mike) Nolan and Annette Marie George ( Kerry Prouten). He will also be sadly missed by many loving nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

Besides his parents, Gerry was also predeceased by a sister, Maureen.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Interment will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations in Gerry’s memory may be made to the Diabetes Association.

Online condolences to the family may be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
