Restaurant chain joins fight against mental illness
Works with charity organizations to create a specialized meal, donate portion of sales
This month, Cape Breton restaurant chain Flavor has a sandwich on its menu that promotes awareness of mental illness and donates a portion of its sales to the cause.
The Stigma Slammer is a clubhouse sandwich that supports Crossroads Cape Breton, which is an organization that helps people who are living with mental illness build more meaningful and satisfying lives.
The restaurant chain promotes a sandwich or meal every month in support of a charitable organization.
“Local charities apply to us, and what we do is get them to make a table-top sign. We put it on the table of every restaurant and then two dollars from every sandwich sold goes to the charity featured that month,” said Scott Morrison, the owner of Flavour restaurants.
The Stigma Slammer is made with grilled chicken beast, topped with maple-candied bacon, sun-dried tomatoes, mayo and spinach on a rustic bun.
Morrison also added that the sandwiches advertised every month are a great, no-hassle way to promote an organization and raise money for a good cause.
“It’s an easy fundraiser, because all we have to do is create a sandwich, print off 80 little tent-top cards and collect a cheque at the end of the end of the month, there’s not much work involved.” said Morrison.
Morrison said although he is not sure what charity will have its meal featured next month, organizations have been lining up to create their own sandwiches.
“I don’t know who it is, but we’re booked until next April, “said Morrison.
Flavor currently has three locations in Sydney: Flavor Downtown, Flavor On The Water and Flavor 19.
