Construction projects on schedule
Culvert, water main upgrades underway in Northside communities
The Cape Breton Regional Municipality says construction projects on the Northside remain on schedule for completion.
Construction crews are continuing to work on projects in both North Sydney and Sydney Mines this week, both of which are expected to be finished within four weeks of the respective start dates.
On Monday, work began on Regent Street in North Sydney to replace an old culvert between Pierce and Clifford streets.
“We are replacing the old culvert with a new culvert as an annual inspection showed (a new one) was needed,” said Jillian Moore, spokesperson for the Cape Breton Regional Municipality.
The area between Pierce and Clifford streets will be closed to traffic during the four-week period, however homeowners in the area will be allowed access at all times.
Meanwhile in Sydney Mines, the CBRM water utility began water main upgrades on Aug. 14 at the Main Street and Pond Road as well as Main Street and Diggin Street intersections.
Once construction is completed
at the Main Street and Diggin Street intersection, the project will continue with a
water main replacement for the entire length of Diggin Street.
Work will take place at both locations from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. during the week, with the
schedule subject to change pending the work taking place on a specific day.
Motorists can expect traffic delays as work continues. Traffic control personnel will be in place for the duration of the project.
