CURRIE, Ann Lorraine

-

It is with great sadness that the family of Ann Lorraine Currie regrets to announce her passing, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Lorraine was born at Gillisdale, CB, on June 6, 1944, the daughter of the late Angus R. Gillis and Margaret (Smith) Gillis.

She was predeceased by her husband, Peter in December 2016.

She is survived by her daughters, Sheila and Roseann, as well as her beautiful grandchildren, Emma, Molly, Katie, Samuel, Maggie and Peggy (Duprey) and Sarah and Ryan (Kehoe).

Lorraine was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Sydney River, a member of the CWL of her parish, and an active member of the Cape Breton Gaelic Choir. Lorraine and Peter Currie received people into their home with genuine hospitality and were quick to offer an opportunity to play tarbish, along with a good cup of tea and some of her delicious homemade baked sweets. Family and friends gathering at her home also enjoyed a taste of her Scottish background with both Gaelic and English songs, as well as occasional violin and piano selections.

Visitation for Lorraine Currie will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday, August 31 from 3-6 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Sydney River on Friday, September 1 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Duaine Devereaux officiating. Interment will be held at Holy Rosary Cemetery following the service.

All who have been moved by Lorraine’s presence in their lives are also touched by sorrow at her passing. She will be forever missed.
