A life-long love of music has helped pave the way for Mike MacSween in his present role as executive director of the Celtic Colours Internatio­nal Festival. A native of Cape Breton, Mike believes the popular autumn festival helps to further strengthen the island’s strong sense of cultural identity.

Occupation: Executive Director, Celtic Colours Internatio­nal Festival. Home: Upper Leitches Creek. Birthplace: Sydney (St. Rita’s Hospital to be exact). Family: Wife Jamie, two step-kids Miles and Alka Pets: Two dogs Otis and Ellie, and cat Max.

What was your first job? Mowing lawns/yardwork in my neighbourh­ood.

What talent would you most like to have? To play the fiddle well enough to be featured in the Festival!

Coffee or tea? Coffee

What is your favourite food? Curry Favourite movie? Might be tie between Forrest Gump and Batman (Michael Keaton version from 1990). Favourite music? Celtic music of course! But also love classic rock and any live music.

Pet Peeve: Those who don’t see the magic of this place we live.

Which trait in people do you most admire? Patience.

What is your favourite thing about Cape Breton? The people of Cape Breton are the best.

Where is your favourite place to travel? Outside of Cape Breton I enjoy Newfoundla­nd, Scotland, and have a trip to Ireland on my bucket list.
