Concerts galore

Thanks to annual event, plenty going on in Richmond County

The count down is on with just days until the Celtic Colours Internatio­nal Music Festival covers the island with music, cultural events and dining experience­s.

Richmond County is host to four festival concerts and a number of cultural events. Richmond’s concerts will start at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 9, with Acadian Roots which takes place at the D’Escousse Civic Improvemen­t Hall on Isle Madame. It will feature entertaine­rs Bon Debarras, Cyril MacPhee, Richmond County’s own singer songwriter, Leanne Aucoin’s new band “The Narrows” out of Halifax and Richmond en

tertainer Decota McNamara. Tickets are $25 and $30.

On Oct. 10, take in “Taking to Talisk” (Taking to Task) at the Riverdale Community Centre in Lower River Inhabitant­s, with a full slate of great Cape Breton, Scottish and Irish entertaine­rs including Fergal Scahill, Ryan Molloy and Emma O’Sullivan, Talisk, Adrianne and Mike Gorey, Mckayla MacNeil and Kevin LeVesconte. Tickets are $30.

Concert by the Canal at the St. Peter’s Lions Hall takes place on Oct. 11, featuring the entertainm­ent of Alison Brown, the Alt, Scott MacMillan and Colin Grand and Richmond’s gold medal winners, the Island Steppers. Tickets are $25 and $30.

On Oct. 12, at the L’Ardoise Community Centre, audiences will be entertaine­d by Cherish the Ladies, Roger Stone, Jennifer Williams and Joel Chiasson. Tickets are $30.

During the festival, locals and visitors alike can enjoy some community meals before the concerts. On Oct. 9, there will be a turkey dinner with two settings, either 4 p.m. or 5:15 p.m. in Arichat at OLA Parish Hall. Admission is $18.

On Oct. 10, come to Lobsters R Us in L’Ardoise for the Celtic Colour event Sounds and Supper by the Sea, where you will enjoy a delicious down east style lobster or ham supper and entertainm­ent from 1 to 4 p.m. Tickets are $30.

On Oct. 10, attend the traditiona­l Irish stew supper at the Rocky Bay Irish Club from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Admission is $15.

On Oct.11, eat a roast pork dinner at the Riverdale Community Centre in Lower River starting at 5 p.m. Admission is $20.

From Oct. 9 to 12 concert-goers can continue the music at the Kitchen Racket Jam Sessions held from 10:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Bras d’Or Lakes Inn in St. Peter’s. Admission is $5 for listeners or free for players.
