It is with sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of James Fraser Duguid, 90, of New Waterford on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late James and Alice (Wagner) Duguid.

James drove taxi in town prior to working in No. 12 Colliery. He then went on to work at the Heating Plant in Point Edward and retired from the Coal Piers in Whitney Pier. James was an avid bowler who, along with his wife Marie, won a mixed doubles bowling championsh­ip. They each received diamond rings for their victory. James also enjoyed playing darts and various card games for several years.

He is survived by his children, Jim Jr. (Debbie), Kingston, N.S, Alice Adams, Fort St. James, B.C., Brian, at home, Gerald ‘Moe’, Dominion, Judy (Rick) Brunette, Ottawa, Cathy (Paul) Burke, New Waterford; one sister, Alice Benvie, Halifax; 12 grandchild­ren; 17 great-grandchild­ren.

Besides his parents, James was predecease­d by his wife, Marie; sisters, Gladys, Dorothy, Ernestine and June; son-in-law, Bill; sisters and brothers-in-law, Hester, Kay, Josephine, Patrick, Naish and Charlie.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivra­y Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Ray Huntley officiatin­g.

Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard’s Hall on Convent Street, New Waterford.

Donations in his memory may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.
