MacDONALD, Catherine Faustina

Glace Bay

-

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Catherine Faustina MacDonald age 77, beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Faustina passed away with her loving family at her side on Thursday, November 02, 2017, at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, February 02, 1940, she was the eldest daughter of Florence (Livingstone) and the late Neil D. MacDonald and was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Parish, Bridgeport.

Tina graduated from St. Anne’s High School in 1957 and began her working life at Highland Motors. Later she worked at CIBC and then in the office at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Her spirit of adventure took her to New York where she worked with Canadian Pacific Railway and then on to Calgary where she met her husband Greg before returning home to begin her family. While raising her children she worked at the Heavy Water Plant. Both she and her husband Greg were very involved in the Charismatic Renewal and in the church choir.

Nothing delighted Tina more than driving through the countryside with her husband Greg, enjoying roadside picnics, visiting friends, and listening to Cape Breton Music. Tina will be remembered as a prayerful, kind, and compassionate person who always put others first.

She is survived by her mother, Florence; children, Tim (Vanessa), Dominion, Andrew (Rose), Halifax, Anne Halfyard (Chris), Glace Bay; grandchildren, Luke, Madison, Madeline, Heather, Grace, Isabelle; brothers, Allan (Betty), Calgary, Fr. Tim, Toronto, Hugh (Colleen), Glace Bay; sisters, Marlene MacDonald (Jim), Halifax, Isabel Andriuk (Tom), Masstown, Dollena Neville (Barclay) and Rachel, both of Sydney; brothers-inlaw, Gordon (Lela), Halifax, Reg (Paula), Cold Lake, Danny MacIsaac, Sydney; and many nieces and nephews. Tina will also be sadly missed by special cousin, Florence Ulrich.

Besides her father, Neil D., Tina was also predeceased by her loving husband, Greg in 2015; her parents-in-law, Alex and Katie MacDonald and daughter-in-law, Jackie.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Visitation will be held Monday evening, November 06, 2017 from 7-9 p.m., at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass, concelebrated by Fr. Tim MacDonald and Fr. Daniel Boudreau will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 07, 2017, in Immaculate Conception Church, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

All are invited to join Tina’s family at a reception in the church basement.

Memorial donations in Tina’s memory may be made to the St.Vincent de Paul Society or charity of choice. The family would appreciate your donation to the next blood drive in your community in Tina’s memory.

We would like to thank Dr. Jamie MacLean, the 3rd floor nursing staff at Glace Bay General Hospital, and New Waterford Homemakers for their compassion and care.

Online condolences to the family may be expressed at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
