Theresa Ann Burke, 96, of Sydney, died November 4, 2017, at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit. Born and raised in Rear Big Pond, she was the daughter of the late Peter S. and Catherine MacNeil. Raised in a Gaelic environmen­t, Theresa remained a strong promoter of her culture. She is featured online in a series of interviews compiled by the Gaelic Council and the Highland Village (www.cainntmomh­athar.com). She was considered a tradition bearer in the Gaelic Community.

Theresa is survived by daughters, Frances, Ginny, Lucina, Colleen and Virginia; one son, Ed; her sister, Martha; a brother, Gussie; 11 grandchild­ren; 9 great grandchild­ren; 1 greatgreat grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predecease­d by her husband, John Edward (1989); daughter, Marion (2017); sisters, Agnes, Annie Mae and Vonnie, and her brother, John.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A service is planned for June 2018.
