Busy meeting for CBRM council
November meeting set for tonight at city hall
The proposed Big Pond RV campground is among the items on the agenda when CBRM council hold its regular monthly meeting tonight at city hall in Sydney.
Approximately 100 people turned out to a public meeting last week at the Big Pond fire hall, where CBRM planning director Malcolm Gillis outlined the municipality’s roles and responsibilities when it comes to amending zoning bylaws.
And today, councillors are expected to approve a recommendation to advertise notice of a public hearing on the matter that is scheduled to take place during council’s regular January meeting. At that time, council will consider a zoning amendment application to allow for the development of the proposed RV campground in Big Pond Centre.
This evening’s council meeting agenda also includes a presentation on the upcoming Municipal Planning Strategy Review. The topics to be discussed during next year’s meetings of council’s general committee include the required five-year review of the CBRM’s Planning Act, an overview of the Ekistics report on Sydney Harbourfront development, the municipality’s coastal setback policy, residential development and the rules governing the construction of public and private streets within the CBRM.
CBRM senior planner Rick McCready will also appear before council to provide an overview of proposed tax incentives designed to promote downtown revitalization and economic development.
The municipality’s CFO, Jennifer Campbell, is slated to address the chamber with a review of the CBRM’s procurement policy and proposed amendments.
The meeting will also cover public services issues such as the Bayplex and the municipality’s streetlight policy.
The council meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. and is open to the public.
