Louisbourg native joins board

Tourism Nova Scotia announced the appointmen­t of two new members to its board of directors on Friday.

Joining the board are Patricia Lyall, past president and CEO of Destinatio­n Halifax, and Louisbourg native Gordon Stevens, founder and president of The Uncommon Group, a group of retail stores including, Uncommon Grounds, Rum Runners Rum Cake Factory and multiple other businesses.

“Our skills-based, private-sector board has oversight responsibi­lity for the organizati­on and provides strategic guidance and direction to Tourism Nova Scotia staff,” said Irene d’Entremont, chair of Tourism Nova Scotia’s board. “We now have a full board in place with the addition of these individual­s.”

“Tourism Nova Scotia’s focus on attracting more, higherspen­ding visitors to the province is key to advancing Nova Scotia’s economic growth strategy,” said Minister of Business Geoff MacLellan, the MLA for Glace Bay.

Stevens is an entreprene­ur, former chartered accountant and hedge fund executive, he also created the local co-operative marketing and promotiona­l brand for independen­t retailers and restaurant­s in downtown Halifax.

He also chaired the Arthritis Society of Nova Scotia and sat on the national board of the Arthritis Society of Canada.

Lyall, from Hants County, worked in the hospitalit­y industry for more than 40 years, primarily in the accommodat­ions sector with major hotel chains including ITT Sheraton, Canadian Pacific Hotels and Resorts, and Delta Hotels and Resorts.
