Louisbourg native joins board
Tourism Nova Scotia announced the appointment of two new members to its board of directors on Friday.
Joining the board are Patricia Lyall, past president and CEO of Destination Halifax, and Louisbourg native Gordon Stevens, founder and president of The Uncommon Group, a group of retail stores including, Uncommon Grounds, Rum Runners Rum Cake Factory and multiple other businesses.
“Our skills-based, private-sector board has oversight responsibility for the organization and provides strategic guidance and direction to Tourism Nova Scotia staff,” said Irene d’Entremont, chair of Tourism Nova Scotia’s board. “We now have a full board in place with the addition of these individuals.”
“Tourism Nova Scotia’s focus on attracting more, higherspending visitors to the province is key to advancing Nova Scotia’s economic growth strategy,” said Minister of Business Geoff MacLellan, the MLA for Glace Bay.
Stevens is an entrepreneur, former chartered accountant and hedge fund executive, he also created the local co-operative marketing and promotional brand for independent retailers and restaurants in downtown Halifax.
He also chaired the Arthritis Society of Nova Scotia and sat on the national board of the Arthritis Society of Canada.
Lyall, from Hants County, worked in the hospitality industry for more than 40 years, primarily in the accommodations sector with major hotel chains including ITT Sheraton, Canadian Pacific Hotels and Resorts, and Delta Hotels and Resorts.
