Gracie returns
Annual holiday concert to take place in Wentworth Park on Dec. 23
John Gracie will return for his annual Christmas concert in Sydney’s Wentworth Park at 7 p.m. on Dec. 23.
It will be the 11th year for the event although for a few moments there were questions about whether it would even take place when a presenting sponsor dropped out. But the Glace Bay Y’s Men and Women’s Club and Atlantic Lottery Corp. have stepped in to be this year’s presenting sponsors after learning about the situation on social media.
“We proudly support festivals and events that bring us together and this event certainly brings family together at a very special time and place,” said Tracey Cutcliffe, vice-president of stakeholder relations and communications with Atlantic Lottery.
The Glace Bay Y’s Men and Women’s Club is based in Glace Bay, the birthplace of singer/ songwriter John Gracie. When the club learned of the need for a sponsor on social media, they reached out to offer support for the event, stating they felt it was a worthy community event that needed to take place.
Atlantic Lottery and the Glace Bay Y’s Men and Women’s Club join other sponsors — Sobeys, Cape 94.9/ CJCB 1270/MAX 98.3 (MBS), the Cape Breton Post, the Cambridge Suites and CBRM — in putting on this year’s event.
The concert will feature award-winning singer John Gracie who will be performing with his daughter actress/ singer/songwriter Samantha Gracie and his band.
The Gracie family created the free event to bring families back to Wentworth Park, well known for its Christmas displays in the past. Over the years, the park bandshell has been restored and a Christmas display once again put in place.
