Trial set on accessory charge

SYDNEY — A provincial court trial date was set Wednesday for one of six people charged in connection with a hit and run death in March.

Andrew Phillip MacIntyre, 35, of New Boston Road, entered not guilty plea Wednesday to being an accessory after the fact (to a hit and run) by assisting Thomas Smith to obtain parts for his Volkswagen.

Smith, 26, is charged with several offences including failing to stop at the scene of an accident, criminal negligence causing death (texting by driving) and obstructio­n by hiding, repairing or burning his vehicle.

Four others, including Smith’ s mother, are also charged with being an accessory. MacIntyre, who continues his release on conditions, is now to stand trial June 4.

The charges relate to the March 11 death of Jackie Deveau, 54, of Cheticamp, who died after being struck by vehicle on Highway 125, near the Mira Road exit. be of good behaviour, accessing the internet and contacting an individual under the age of 16.

The offences are alleged to have occurred Nov. 10 in Sydney.

MacIntyre is now to return to court Jan. 29 to enter pleas.

MacIntyre was sentenced in May 2015 to serve two years and five-and-a-half months after pleading guilty to two counts of luring a child under 16 for a sexual purpose; two counts of breaching court orders; two counts of possession of child pornograph­y; extortion; single counts of sexual assault and committing an indecent act.

He served his entire sentence after federal correction­al officials deemed him a risk to commit a sexual offence involving a child or do serious harm to another person if he was released. sentence, MacNeil is only allowed to leave her home for appointmen­ts involving education, employment, medical, legal, counsellin­g and a hour-hour period once a week. During the last four months of the sentence, she is to abide by a curfew.
