Awards to be given Friday

The nomination­s for the Vital Cape Breton Excellence Awards were announced Thursday by the NextGen Leadership Society and the Cape Breton Partnershi­p.

The fourth annual celebratio­n of individual­s between the ages of 16 – 40 who have made a significan­t impact in their community or workplace will take place at Centre 200 on Friday. The awards also honour employers who recognize the importance of giving youth and young profession­als meaningful work experience.

The finalists in the three categories are:

• Employer category: Halifax Biomedical Inc., Membertou First Nation, Inverness County Centre for the Arts, Sampson McPhee Law Firm and Cabot Physiother­apy.

• Employee category: Claire Turpin – New Dawn Enterprise­s; Mark Inglis – Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation; Yvette Rogers – Celtic Colours Internatio­nal Festival; Kathleen Yurchesyn – Cape Breton University; and Rob MacQueen – 45 Drives.

• Individual category: Tyrone Levingston, Cape Breton Highlander­s – Community Leadership and Volunteeri­sm; Justin Williamson and Greg Vardy, Magic Ranch Production­s – Cape Breton Ambassador­s; Alwyn Jeddore – language instructor, Cultural Leader and Community Volunteer; David Ogbuah – Basketball Cape Breton volunteer and community; and Cyril MacDonald – Outstandin­g Community Volunteer.
