St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church to host The Miners’ First Noel concert
St. Andrew’s church to host a Christmas concert.
A holiday concert to help support the St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church will take place next week in Sydney Mines.
The Miners’ First Noel, a oneday concert featuring a mixture of new and old carols and more, is scheduled for Dec. 29 at 7 p.m.
“People seem to like it, it’s a lot of great music with a lot of great people performing,” said Rita Johnston, stewardship committee chairperson at the church. “You’re in for a great concert if you want to be entertained.”
Three years ago, Bob Quinn had the idea for the concert as a way to raise funds for the church and give back to the Sydney Mines community.
This year’s event will feature Quinn, Jennifer Whalen, Kevin Evans, Jennifer MacDonald, Stewart MacNeil and Lucy MacNeil.
“People tend to like the concerts here because we have a great atmosphere, the acoustics in the church is really good,” said Johnston. “At Christmas time, people want something to do between Dec. 26-31 because there is nothing really on the go, but they want to be entertained.”
The event was successful the first two years, however, last year The Miners’ First Noel didn’t take place because Quinn
was away.
“Last year we had a different kind of concert and people were asking why we didn’t do The Miners’ First Noel,” said Johnston. “A lot of people are glad we’re bringing it back this year and they’re looking forward to it and trying to get the word out for us.”
As of last Thursday, 200 tickets were sold for the event, with about 200 tickets still available.
“It’s a concert where you
can bring the whole family – it’s not an adult concert, it’s a lot of lively music,” said Johnston.
Tickets for the event are $25 each and are available at Sexton’s Pharmasave in Sydney Mines, and Shoppers Drug Mart in North Sydney. Tickets can also be purchased by phoning Johnston at 902-736-2508.
