MACNEIL, David Allan

-

With the most broken of hearts, we must announce the passing of David Allan MacNeil, 65, in the An Cala Palliative Care Unit on Thursday, December 28, 2017 after an incredibly brave and lengthy battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family, who held his hands as he moved from this world to the next.

Raised in Whitney Pier and settling in Sydney, Dave was an incredibly hard-working man during his lifetime, devoting himself to providing for the family he loved so much and doted on. As a Certified Mechanical Engineering Technologist, he designed and built several systems and institutions that are still in use today, spending the last years of his life as a Quality Inspector in the Albertan oil fields. He was a true jack of all trades, leaving his mark solidly on the beloved Lynne Drive home where he spent over 30 years. Dave was a stubborn and wickedly intelligent man; a true fiery Scottish redhead with a wonderfully silly sense of humour. Generous to a fault, Dave was wellknown for his tremendously giving nature and lived unselfishly in the name of his devout Catholic faith. His strength was unmatched; his battle with cancer was nothing short of heroic. He touched many lives during this period, defying expectations time and time again. A day will not go by that he will not be missed desperately by his entire family and everyone who knew him; he was an example of true faith, bravery and courage.

Dave is survived by the love of his life Colleen, his wife of 41 years, who cared for him adoringly during his five year illness. Dave is also survived by his loving daughters, Beth Carmichael (Chris), Amy MacNeil (Peter) and Jen MacKenzie (Cory), as well as his five beloved grandchildren, Rowan, Aidan, Leo, Olivia and Priya. He leaves behind brothers, Ron, JR (Bonnie) and Paul (Debbie); sisters, Loretta McNeil and Cathy Urquhart (Peter); many nieces and nephews, and Piper, his much-loved Shih Tzu.

He was predeceased by his parents, John and Kay; sister, Sandra; sister-in-law, Diane, and brother-in-law, Dave.

Visitation for Dave will take place on Saturday, December 30 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, December 31 at 1 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Church with Rev. Paul Murphy officiating.

Condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.twcurry.com. Interment at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

The finest man on Lynne Drive!
