It’s a big secret

Latest Confidential Musical Theatre Project to be presented this Saturday

- BY CAPE BRETON POST STAFF news@cbpost.com

The Highland Arts Theatre is presenting the next installment of its Confidential Musical Theatre Project on Saturday.

And that’s all that’s known at this point.

With a Confidential Musical Project, the actors are given their scripts and sworn to secrecy. They practise their songs and lines on their own at home, with no knowledge of who else will be joining them that night on stage. What you see on the night is akin to watching the first read through, dress rehearsal, opening night, and closing night, all rolled into one. Anything can happen as the actors stumble their way through this unforgettable night of theatre while following one simple rule: no matter what happens, don’t stop.

Previously, audiences have been treated to some of Broadway’s favourite shows such as “Bye, Bye Birdie,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Cinderella,” “Guys and Dolls,” and last fall’s smash hit, “My Fair Lady.”

“This is a very special musical,” said HAT artistic director, Wesley J. Colford. “It’s one we’ve wanted to do for a long time and one that’s perfect for Confidential. It’s got a dream cast of local actors … we’re really treating it like a full production. We just can’t tell you what it is.”

This one-time-only show will be performed Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Highland Arts Theatre, 40 Bentinck St., Sydney.

Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 on the day of the show or at the door. Seats can be reserved at the HAT box office (open 11 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday-Friday), over the phone at 902-565-3637 or by visiting the Highland Arts Theatre website: www.highlandartstheatre.com.
