PC leadership race offers other options

-

There is another option other than the ‘status quo’ in the Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative leadership race. Actually, there are three other options.

The PC Party of Nova Scotia has 16 MLAs, three of whom are running for the leadership job. The three are Elizabeth Smith McCrossin, John Lohr and Tim Houston.

That leaves 13 MLAs to endorse leadership candidates, but Chris d’Entremont is sitting on the chair with party president Tara Miller to ensure the leadership process runs effectively and Karla MacFarlane stepped up to be interim party leader. This meant she had to pull her endorsement of Houston to remain impartial.

So that leaves 11 MLAs to back candidates and there are four candidates including the CBRM mayor Cecil Clarke. Of those 11, five are on record as endorsing Houston. They include Kim Masland, Tim Halman, Brad Johns, Pat Dunn and Barbara Adams. That speaks volumes of the confidence the party has in Houston.

This leaves six MLAs to endorse one of the four possible leaders.

I’m exited about the future of the province and looking forward to better days ahead for all of us. We are currently faced with many issues including education, emergency room closures and mental health wait times to name a few.

Our current government doesn’t seem to be able to fix these issues and seems all right with that. The ministers responsible for the files and the premier will not acknowledge that these issues even exist. But being a Cape Bretoner from Glace Bay, I can say these issues are even more disturbingly real.

We have the opportunity to now to carry on and build on the direction we’ve been going all along within the party. When Houston takes the leadership and opens up lines of communication, its obvious to me that our next government will be one that listens and takes everything and every Nova Scotian into consideration.

Tim is a proven problem solver, listener and he wants what’s best for Nova Scotia. He will not rest until that goal is achieved. He is very smart and effective currently as opposition and given the opportunity to govern will, in my opinion, be as strong or stronger with a bigger stage to work from. He will be ready to govern from day one with people-focused decisions and a very welcoming fresh new approach.

For this reason, I ask you all to give Tim a chance and check him out on Facebook, Twitter and his website at www.TimHouston.ca where you can sign up for a free newsletter and have a look at what the rest of the province is thinking. Keep in mind this province is 51 ridings not seven.

Tim is very responsive to questions or concerns on those platforms I mention above. Let him know your concerns. He wants to know. He needs to know. Tell him Willie sent you! Willie Currie
