A warm and welcoming environment for women to share inspiration and encouragement is among the goals of Women’s Wednesdays each month on the Northside.

“Our whole intent was to provide an opportunity for women to share their stories, provide support to one another and inspire one another,” said Gail Holdner, who started the monthly sessions with Shirley Dalton.

“At the end of the day people walk out with something to think about that can maybe help them move on with their lives and enjoy where they are.”

The first event was on Oct. 4 and six sessions have already been held at the Higher Grounds Cafe in North Sydney — each one packed with women who have brought their stories of success in life and business.

“That’s an important combination because you don’t grow financially until you grow personally,” said Dalton.

Each session has also included a featured presenter and a featured musician and upcoming gatherings will include a community spotlight.

Sessions are usually held the second Wednesday of each month but the next one has been moved to March 7 so that the group can properly mark International Women’s Day.

That gathering will take place at the Royal Canadian Legion in North Sydney so that an evergrowing number of interested

women can take part.

“It’s wonderful and I’m so glad women are liking this and coming and supporting it,” said Holden. “What we ask is that the women who we ask to present share their stories and tell them what happened in their lives and where the challenges were. Whatever is important to them.”

At the special International Women’s Day session, Anne MacPhee from the Ann Terry project and Sherry Finney, a community entrepreneur, will share their stories and inspirations, while Carmen Townsend will be the featured musician.

Food and celebration are also part of the event, according to the organizers.

Northside women entrepreneurs who want to showcase their business, can get information from Holdner at 902-5743799 (gholdner@gmail.com) or Dalton at 902-304-6321 (shirleyece2001@yahoo.ca).

A limited number are available.

For everyone else, the notfor-profit event will ask for donations at the door. Any money left after costs are covered will be donated to the RCMP Clifford House program that supports children in the community.

Doors are open to the public from 6-10 p.m.

After the International Women’s Day event, the Wednesday meetings will return to the Higher Grounds Café.
