Scots coming for visit

Grab your kilts and tartans, the Scottish are coming to town.

In the interest of exploring two-way trade opportunities, the Sydney and Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the Lochaber Chamber of Commerce from Scotland for a business luncheon.

The event will take place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., March 8, in the Kavanagh Room at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion.

“We’re very excited for our members and business community to be able to network and build relationships with a chamber of commerce from Scotland,” Bob Inglis, a member of the Sydney chamber’s board of directors, said in a news release.

Members of the Lochaber chamber will also be visiting the Cape Breton Partnership during their visit to the island to explore opportunities for economic and cultural development through tourism, food, drink, and cultural connections.

“The Partnership is pleased to be hosting the Lochaber Chamber,” said Carla Arsenault, the Partnership’s chief operating officer. “There have always been strong cultural ties between Cape Breton and Scotland. This is a unique opportunity for us to share our experiences in economic development and learn from each other.”

The event will feature presentations from Mike MacSween, executive director of the Celtic Colours International Festival, and Mary Tulle, chief executive officer of Destination Cape Breton Association.
